| Using Flash with the Shooting Mode Matching the When, Where, and What |
 |
 EF 50mm f/1,4 USM, 1/90s, f/8 |
High-quality images with fully automatic flash photography.
Just set the E0S's shooting mode to P. Then all you do is press the shutter button. Flash photography will be completely automatic in all situations whether it's night or day. Even daylight fill flash, which formerly required pro-level skills, becomes a snap. With the bright background of the scene, the woman's face may appear dark without |
| using flash. Even with the difficult side-light conditions shown here, E-TTL autoflash makes the picture look natural. |
E-TTL autoflash with aperture-priority AE when both the foreground and background are important.
Adjusting the depth of field is a basic technique of photographic expression. A large aperture blurs the background, and a small aperture sharpens the focus to give a clearer perspective between the foreground and background (see the photo). |
 EF 28mm f/2,8, 1/60s at f/11 |
| Set the camera's shooting mode to Av, then set the desired aperture. E-TTL autoflash will then base the exposure on the aperture you set. |
 EF 100mm f/2 USM, 1/2000s at f/2 |
Shutter speed-priority AE mode E-TTL autoflash with shutter speed-priority AE and FP flash.
When you want to freeze action, use the shutter speed-priority AE mode and FP flash. Set the camera's shooting mode to Tv, and EX Speedlite to high-speed sync (FP flash). Then set the sync speed anywhere to suit the subject. |
| Based on the sync speed, the flash aperture is set to obtain the correct exposure for the background with E-TTL autoflash. With the bright background, the subject looks natural with the action frozen at the same time, as shown here. |
