45-point Area AF and 21-zone metering sensor
The world’s fastest AF system, covering the world’s largest AF area.
The EOS-1D uses the same Area AF system perfected in the EOS-1v professional 35mm camera. Forty-five AF points cover more of the picture area than any other digital SLR in the world, making focusing and composing of off-center subjects a one-step operation. |
And it’s a versatile system, allowing the photographer numerous methods to manually select an AF point, or allowing the EOS-1D to automatically select the AF point instead.
EOS-1D performance carries over to this powerful AF system. The world’s fastest, it responds almost instantly, and can track a subject moving at the speed of a Formula 1 car (186mph/300km/h) with the 300mm f/2.8L IS lens until it’s as close as 66 feet/20m. And it can consistently maintain sharp focus, shot to shot, even at 8 frames per second.
7 cross-type AF sensors for the utmost focusing and tracking accuracy.
Cross-type AF sensors allow more accurate and reliable focusing than conventional sensors because they track subjects in both the vertical and horizontal directions. The EOS-1D is generously equipped with seven cross-type AF sensors, each of which operates with an aperture of f/5.6 for horizontal-line focusing and f/2.8 for vertical-line focusing. These sensors perform accurately with any of Canon’s wide-ranging large-diameter EF lenses (f/2.8 or higher aperture), thus expanding your creative options.
